That could be the most dramatic stage of the Giro, but it's a pity that most of the drama was left on the cutting room floor, as a 4-minute vid didn't do the stage justice.

Hands down for Rohan Dennis, the man of the day...maybe it’s because I don’t know him much but I’d never expect a former TT world champion weighting -80kg to drop basically all the GC contenders and pure climbers around...after having stayed in break aways for many of the last stages. He basically paced for what, 30 km? Far played to him

Great race today. They really had to go very deep. Tomorrow a "flat" race of 257 km. Terribly long and probably not as flat as a the WC in Qatar. So even tomorrow not much time for recovery for the GC riders. On Saturday another mountain stage and on Sunday the ITT. Many things can happen and will happen in these last three days. It ain't over till it's over. Take a look at the top 12 now and at the finish line in Milano. There will still be a lot (and huge) changes.

amazing this team Sunweb, left Kelderman alone amazing man

    1. Tim K.

      Vor Monat

@Diogo Freitas Kelderman was simply the best in the mountains in first 2 weeks, but in the last week Hindley has been the best - who wasn’t good in the first mountain stage - and Hart has been second best - who also wasn’t good on the Etna. Kelderman doesn’t have bad legs, if it were a 1 V 1 between Hart and Kelderman he wouldn’t have lost more than 40 sec, if he even had lost time, because Hart was on his limit on the last climb as well. In reality Kelderman just couldn’t follow the pace on a steep section on the climb, eventually he was consistently on a 38 seconds gap and at the end he lost 11 seconds more, perhaps because of his vest he couldn’t close. But Hart had trouble following Dennis’ pace as well. He lost 1 minute and ten seconds on Hart on the flat section and he lost energy because he was riding alone in the wind, while Hart was behind Dennis. He lost that much time because of Dennis and that he had no support whatsoever, his legs weren’t that bad.

    2. Johan Dekker
      Johan Dekker
      Vor Monat

Eder Martins I think that kelderman is the favorite cuz he is the best time trial of the 3 so my favorite is kelderman but it will be heavy for him to keep it maybe it is what Tom dumoulin had in the last stage losing the pink and on Sunday he take over the pink jersey

    3. Steve A
      Steve A
      Vor Monat

@SandervdB94 Hindley could not attack.... Any increase in speed would bring Tao closer to Kelderman. Imho it was a great day for Sunweb... though Hart is the strongest (with th TT coming up) , he has to mark two sunweb riders on Saturday.

    4. Diogo Freitas
      Diogo Freitas
      Vor Monat

@Tim K. I would be happy if Kelderman wins the Giro after everything he faced on his career I think he deserves and he seems a really nice guy, but I really dont see him with good legs.. he's always on his red zone in every climb. Maybe Hindley and Hart lost time in the beginning but look now... they're the strongest cyclists on the road and they are just seconds away of Kelderman! And lets not forget the stage on saturday, its seconds we are talking about! Its true that Kelderman is the best of these three in TT but Hart is not that bad and it is very few kms.

What a stage! Such a revolution in the GC. The Giro has been quite exciting. And it appears to be even more exciting after today. I guess there will be some moves in the classification til the end. And that TT in the last stage will help to that. João was a fighter and he did really good nonetheless in this stage. I guess we'll still hear from him. But Tao and Jai are riding superbly. Let's see what happens...

I know João Almeida lost his maglia rosa and a place in the podium as well, but how great this kid was, his first year as a pro, his first grand tour ever and he held pink for two weeks, fighting for the win with some of the best cyclists in the world, also young but with much more experience than him and he will finish the Giro in top 5!! he have future for sure. and the Giro is incredibily tight til the end!
